NVIDIA open-sources SMLib, an industrial-grade NURBS kernel

The solid-modeling engine that does booleans, fillets and shelling is now free under Apache 2.0, and until now only legacy licensees could get it. A free Python wrapper, smlibpy, adds an MCP server, so AI agents can build parts and export STEP files. The poster works at AWV Informatik, the company behind smlibpy.

For engineers: an agent can now draft real CAD geometry on an industrial-grade CAD kernel.
