Early Signal

Golden Spread Electric Cooperative asks to connect a 3,000 MW gas plant in Fisher County to the Texas grid.

The signal

The ERCOT interconnection queue report for September 2026 (posted Oct 1, 2026) has a new row that was not in August. It is 28INR0456, Brazos Energy Security: a combined cycle gas plant of 3,000 MW in Fisher County, tapping the 345 kV line between Tonkawa Switch and Dusty Road. Target start Sept 22, 2030. Screening study completed Jan 6, 2026; full study requested Sept 16, 2026. No interconnection agreement yet. Who's behind it

Golden Spread Electric Cooperative, Amarillo, named directly by ERCOT as the interconnecting entity. Power buyers, turbine makers and contractors unknown.

Why it matters to operators

One of the largest single gas requests in the queue. It would mean a big new gas supply need in the Abilene and Rolling Plains area and heavy construction from about 2028 to 2030. No source gives jobs or cost.

Confidence

Early, one filing. A formal queue request with a study under way, but many queue entries are never built.

What to watch next

a signed interconnection agreement in a later queue report, a TCEQ PSD or greenhouse gas permit application in Fisher County, or a Golden Spread board or financing announcement.

FactoryForge: an open 3D factory simulator for learning PLC programming, wired to TIA Portal, OpenPLC, Node-RED and Ignition

Built as a free alternative to Factory I/O, it connects over OPC UA, Modbus TCP, S7 and PLCSIM, and a grader runs your program against 18 scenes while it cuts the E-stop and injects faults. A broken wire on the pressure transmitter reads 32767, so your logic has to tell a fault from a reading.

For automation students and instructors: the first-hour guide goes from download to OpenPLC driving a sorting line, with no Siemens licence needed.

TOOL

Conpot 1.0, 1,536 stars: the free ICS honeypot is back after eight years, and it now speaks Modbus, S7 and IEC 104

Conpot pretends to be industrial gear and logs whoever tries to use it, and its 1.0 release on Sep 20 rewrote the platform after the last release in 2018. A decoy placed where nothing legitimate should connect turns any connection into a lead worth chasing.

For OT security and plant network teams: a cheap way to learn who is probing control system ports before agents and remote tools add more of them.
